DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR The successful candidate, who will report to and deputize the Vice Chancellor, will be expected to initiate, recommend, implement and monitor policies, systems and procedures relating to academic issues. The University therefore seeks a dynamic individual, of high personal and academic integrity, whose experience will assist the University in implementing its strategic plan. 2. DIRECTOR –DISTANCE EDUCATION The Director of Distance Education will be responsible for developing the University’s portfolio of distance learning education, with the aim of delivering significant, sustainable improvement in the financial and academic contribution it makes to Africa University. The Director will have responsibility for ensuring that the University is in a strong position to meet the ambitious targets it has set for itself in increasing its distance learning activity. He or she will also be responsible for developing the university’s Distance Education Policy guided by a Senate Committee. The Director of Distance Education will work closely with academic departments and other stakeholders in identifying new opportunities for distance learning provision. He or she will work alongside departments in developing business plans and projects and managing the subsequent introduction of new distance learning courses. The successful candidate will champion the development of improved student administration systems and other aspects of the University’s distance learning infrastructure, including the support provided by the Educational Technologies Unit for course design and production. In liaison with the Business Office and Academic Affairs Unit, he or she will be expected to make a significant contribution to the development of improved management information to allow the performance of distance learning to be measured effectively.
