Africa University, an International Pan African and United Methodist Church Related Institution in Zimbabwe, invites applications from suitably qualified and well experienced persons to fill the following strategic positions:

1. DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR

2. DIRECTOR - Institute of Peace, Leadership and Governance

3. DEAN – Faculty of Management and Administration
(Those who once applied for the above posts need not to apply again)

4. LECTURER - to teach Computer Science in the Faculty of Management and Administration

Requirements for the Posts 1 - 3.

The suitable candidate should have the following qualifications:
• An earned doctorate degree in a relevant field.
• A track record of teaching, research and publication in a university .(For post 1-3 , this must be at a professorial level)
• Good university administrative experience at a higher education level in the areas of curriculum planning and development, staff recruitment and evaluation, management of human, material and financial resources;
• Demonstrate effective administrative leadership, sound fiscal management, visionary program development and strong advocacy abilities;
• Sensitivity and commitment to living in an international and multicultural community;
• Commitment to the maintenance of high standards of ethical behaviour among staff and students.

Requirements for post 4

• A minimum of a Masters Degree in the field of specialization.
• A recognized teaching qualification
• Teaching experience at a tertiary level

5. COMPANY SECRETARY
Job summary
The University’s activities are by and large driven by Board of Directors policies and resolutions. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Secretary is responsible for ensuring that accurate and sufficient documentation exists to meet legal requirements and to enable authorised persons to determine when, how and by whom the Board’s business is to be conducted.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide guidance to Board members as to their duties and function.
• Keep the Board abreast with legislative and corporate governance frame works.
• Provide a source of guidance on ethics and good governance.
• Compilation of Board papers.
• Attendance of Board and Board committee meetings and recording proceedings thereof.
• Ensure implementation of Board resolutions.
• Maintenance of statutory records in line with legislative requirements.
• Management and monitoring of expenditure of Board and secretariat budget.
• The incumbent will also be responsible for other tasks that come with the post.

Requirements
This is a very strategic position and successful applicants will have the following qualifications and attributes:
• A Law degree or full CIS.
• An advanced Certificate in corporate governance and administration will be an added advantage.
• Five years post graduate experience in a similar environment.
• Honesty and impeccable integrity

6. PUBLIC POLICY PARTNERSHIP MANAGER
Job summary
This is a two year contract position which may be renewed depending on performance. Reporting to the Director of the Institute of Peace, Leadership and Governance, the job entails designing strategies that strengthen the partnership between the Institute of Peace, Leadership and Governance and Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA).

Duties and Responsibilities
• Providing intellectual leadership to the management and development of the partnership between Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA) and the Institute of Peace Leadership and Governance (IPLG) at Africa University;
• Providing leadership in the partnership;
• Managing and editing publications produced in the partnership;
• Serving as Project Manager for of the partnership’s public policy project, which is closely linked to the generation of the aforementioned publications;
• Contributing to the promotion of the partnership through different modes of communication

Requirements
• A minimum qualification of a Masters Degree in the field of Public Policy and Governance, Social Sciences or Humanities.
• A PhD in a relevant discipline is preferable and is a definite advantage.
• A minimum of four years working experience in a relevant field including at least two years teaching experience at university level.
• Applicants from any of the SADC countries will be considered.
• The candidate must have strong intellectual and academic capacity; organizational and analytical skills;
• ability to evaluate policy issues and develop policy advocacy strategies;
• excellent writing and presentation skills;
• ability to teach at graduate level; strong research skills; project planning and management skills (including budget planning and management); administration skills; and
• ability to work under minimum supervision.
• Knowledge of information technology including desktop publishing skills.

7. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER IN SOCIOLOGY.
Job summary
This programme explores problems of human social organization and processes of individual and societal change. The programme encourages students to examine how social forces influence all aspects of human life and explains fundamental social processes from a sociological perspective.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Teaching at least 3 undergraduate courses in the following areas – Introduction to Social Anthropology, Sociology of Childhood, Sociology of Health and Illness, Deviance and Social Control, Social thought in Africa, Social Theory, Rural Development, Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methods, etc
• Offering intellectual support in the development of an inter-disciplinary masters programme in social sciences
• Supervising Sociology research projects for honour’s level students
• Conducting research as part of a research team at Africa University.
• Representing the faculty in university wide committees and other community activities and events
• Performing any other duties that he/she will be assigned by the Dean of the faculty

Requirements
• Minimum of a Ph.D. in a related field and a Masters Degree in Sociology or equivalent.
• Experience in teaching at an institution of higher learning
