3. DIRECTOR -INSTITUTE OF PEACE, LEADERSHIP AND GOVERNANCE
The successful candidate will be expected to provide dynamic, innovative and versatile leadership and management of the Institute, including high level academic and professional leadership in all aspects of teaching and research. In addition, he/she will provide intellectual support to a comprehensive programme of outreach activities involving conferences, workshops, seminars, retreats and related activities, organised for particular groups and in collaboration with network partner institutions. He/she will ensure liaison and coordination with Deans of Faculties on external exchange programmes. The Director of the Institute is a member of the University Senate and the Vice Chancellor’s Cabinet. He/she reports to the Vice Chancellor on administrative and management issues.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POST
- Preferably a holder of an earned doctorate degree in the field of Peace, Leadership and Governance or relevant field. Applicants who are holders of professorial ranks in the relevant field(s) would be ideal candidates and encouraged to apply.
- Proven experience in leadership and management positions in tertiary and higher education, or in national and international development or equivalent capacity
- Ability to initiate and conduct research
- Ability to oversee academic programmes and carry out programme reviews
- Ability to conduct negotiations with funding agencies
- Ability to design, manage and supervise externally funded projects
- Good human relations and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and commitment to diversity
- Ability to prepare and manage programmes and project budgets
- A minimum of six years in a similar position post-qualification is an added advantage
- Commitment to promote the vision, mission and strategic goals of IPLG and pan-African policies of Africa University.
- Demonstration of very high ethical leadership and management skills.
- Demonstration of moral integrity by modelling Africa University’s Christian values and ethical standards.
- Mature personality, capable of handling sensitive issues and working with public and private institutions and organisation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills: analytical, solution oriented and creative skills.
- Computer literacy skills.

DURATION OF APPOINTMENT
- Three-year contract with a possibility of renewal for a further three year term dependent on performance.

ii) FACULTY OF EDUCATION
The incumbents will be expected among other duties and responsibilities to provide leadership, vision, long term and short term planning, and coordination for research, instruction, extension/outreach and international programs. He or she will also be expected to provide academic and administrative leadership to a growing Faculty whose objective is to become a centre of excellence. The successful candidate will also lead the Faculty in achieving its mission and goals through the development and delivery of relevant programmes, the promotion of excellence in teaching and research and in securing support for the Faculty;
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POST
The suitable candidate should have the following qualifications:
- An earned doctorate degree in a relevant field within the Faculty.
- A track record of teaching, research and publication in a university at a professorial level;
- Good university administrative experience at a tertiary level;
- Demonstrate effective administrative leadership, sound fiscal management, visionary program development and strong advocacy abilities;
- Sensitivity and commitment to living in an international and multicultural community;
- Commitment to the maintenance of high standards of ethical behaviour among staff and students.
- Good communication and interpersonal relations skills;
