Information Technology Training Center History

The Africa University Information Technology Training Center began in February 2002 and on the 19th of February 2003 we celebrated its first anniversary and its official inauguration. The Center began by offering the renowned ICDL (International Computer Driver's License) Program.

ICDL is a basic qualification recommended for anyone who uses a computer. It offers standardized training for all computer users and through the Computer Society of Zimbabwe, internationally recognized examinations are sat for by the trainees. A computer user with ICDL is definitely more useful and productive in any organisation. To date our center has trained over 100 people.

In February 2003, we officially launched additional courses in the center, which are ideal for practicing IT professionals who want to enhance their skills. Some of the courses that have been introduced are:CISCO, Data Communication & Networks; Linux Administration; PC Servicing and Maintenance, Internet and Web Design; A+ Certification,Corel Draw,Pastel; etc. We encourage all the IT professionals to enroll for these courses in order to upgrade their IT skills.

The Africa University Information Technology Training Center is being run by very experienced and dedicated IT professionals. Currently the Information and Communication Technology Department staff are also staff of the Information Technology Training Center. The Director runs the Center with the assistance of the Systems Engineer and Network Engineer.

The Center has the support of the Hardware Technician and Systems Administrator who offer invaluable service and support. Within the hierarchy the center also has an Educational Technology Administrator ,one Information Technology Instructor and Marketing Officer. The department has a secretary and accepts students on attachment who gain invaluable experience in Hardware maintenance, Software Support, Systems Development, Training and Network Support.
