ACACIA HOUSING INITIATIVE

By Workers for Workers, A three in one Package

GOALS

• To site service 243 residential stands, 2 commercial, 1 Church and 1 stand for a Primary School.
• To assist members in constructing standard core houses on the stands.

BACKGROUND
The cooperative was formed in 2006 by Africa University employees out of the need to secure decent housing for University employees following Operation Murambatsvina in June 2005. The members approached the Ministry of Public works and Urban Development requesting for land to built houses for its members. The Ministry referred the members to Mutasa Rural District Council and instructed the Council to provide serviced or unserviced land to the Cooperative. The Mutasa Rural District Council complied and gave us an unserviced land in September 2006. Since then a lot of work and progress has been made towards servicing of the land.
