AFRICA UNIVERSITY OFFERS A UNIQUE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY

APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FROM PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS FOR ADMISSION INTO THE MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY CERTIFICATE PROGRAM BEING OFFERED BY THE FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES AT AFRICA UNIVERSITY, MUTARE, ZIMBABWE .

Successful candidates may be eligible for progression to diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the MLA program candidates must satisfy the requirements for admission to Africa University.

  • Five ‘O’ level subjects or equivalent, with no less than credit level passes in English Language, Biology or Integrated Science and any other three subjects:
  • Applicants who wish to be considered for Mature Age entry Scheme must fulfill the requirements of the University for Admission under the Mature Age Entry Scheme.
  • Applicants from non-English speaking background will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English Language.
  • The medium of instruction at Africa University is the English Language. Applicants from non-English speaking background who have passed ‘O’ level examinations or equivalent will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the English Language or must have successfully completed the Intensive English studies program at Africa University before they can be considered for admission into the Undergraduate Certificate Program for the training of Medical Laboratory Assistants.

( a ) Bachelor’s Degree In Health Services Management (BHSM)

This is a four year full time degree programme. The main components of the
programme are Health Sciences and Public Health, Health Informatics, Financial
and Human Resources Management. The health sciences and public health component
focuses on the skill and knowledge base of disease prevention and patient care support
services. The information technology training provides the health service professionals
with a unique advantage over traditional information system graduates. The management
and administration component exposes the student to complex management problem
solving techniques and functional knowledge of accounting, finance and general business
studies. The programme is offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences in collaboration with
the Faculty of Management and Administration.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must be in possession of;

5 “O” level passes with grade C or above. The five passes must include English
Language, Mathematics, Biology and any other two from the following subjects:
Chemistry, Physics, Physics with Chemistry, Geography, Statistics, Integrated
Science, Accounts,
Commerce, Computer Studies and Business Studies.

GCE Advanced Level/High School or equivalent passes in at least two of the
following subjects:
Biology, Geography, Chemistry, Physics, Accounting, Mathematics, Applied
Mathematics, 
Statistics, Economics and Management of Business.

(b) Post-Basic Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN)

This is a 2-year full time course of study, which is designed to produce specialists
in aspects of applied nursing science. Candidates will have the option to major in
any two of the following four areas of applied nursing sciences which must be indicated
on the application form:

Nursing education.

Nursing management

Admission Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

A Diploma in Nursing.

Must currently be registered to practise as a nurse by the nursing councils
or appropriate health professions’ registration bodies in their respective countries 

Must have worked for at least two years as a nurse in hospitals and or health
centres.

In addition candidates must satisfy the basic entry requirements for matriculation at
Africa University i.e. candidates must show evidence that they have at least a credit
pass in English language, Mathematics, Biology, at “O” or “A” level or their equivalents.

(c) Master's Degree in Public Health (MPH)

This is a 24 months full time programme offered in two phases. The first two semesters
qualifies one for the Diploma in Public Health (DPH). Successful candidates may proceed
to the second year of the programme which includes undertaking a research project, field
attachment and preparation of dissertation leading to the award of the Masters in Public
Health (MPH) degree. The graduate will acquire skills for managing public health programmes,
large scale social and public health projects, investigation and control of diseases of public
health importance including HIV/AIDS.

Admission Requirements

Candidates must

Be in possession of a good first degree in any branch of Health or Social Science
and related disciplines. Candidates who possess equivalent registrable professional
qualifications obtained through formal study and practical training from an accredited
professional body in applied Health Science disciplines may be considered.

Candidates should preferably have acquired at least two years working experience
after graduation from university in the relevant profession or working with health
and social development-related projects sponsored bynational or international NGOs.
