Bachelor of EDUCATION WITH COMPUTER STUDIES

The Faculty of Education offers the following 4-year and 2-year degree programmes in collaboration
with the Faculties of Agriculture & Natural Resources, Humanities & Social Sciences, Management
& Administration, and Theology to prepare teachers and other professional educators in Agriculture,
Business, English, French, Geography, History, Music, Portuguese, and Religious Studies for
secondary schools, colleges, and Ministries/Departments of Education. The faculty also offers
a graduate (M.ED) degree programme in Educational Leadership Management and Development (ELMD)

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMMES

(i) 4-year Bachelor of Science with Education (B.Sc.—Ed.) degree in
Business/Commerce

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the Bachelor of Science with Education (B.Sc.—Ed.) degree programme in
Business/Commerce, candidates must possess the following qualifications:

At least five G.C.E. Ordinary Level passes at Credit level, including English Language
and Mathematics; PLUS

At least two G.C.E. Advanced Level passes or equivalent.

Preference will be given to candidates with Advanced Level passes in Mathematics and
Business related subjects.

(ii) 4-year Bachelor of Arts with Education (BA—Ed) degree with specialization
in two of the following teaching subjects: English, French, Geography, History, Music,
Portuguese, and Religious Studies.

Admission Requirements

Applicants wishing to enter this programme should possess the following qualifications:

At least five G.C.E. Ordinary Level passes at Credit level, including English
Language; and

A minimum of two G.C.E. Advanced Level passes or equivalent.

(iii ) 4-year Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with Education (B.Sc. Agric.-Ed)
degree

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with Education (B.Sc. Agric.-Ed.)
degree programme, candidates must possess the qualifications listed in EITHER
1 and 2; OR 3:

Passes with credit in at least five G.C.E. Ordinary Level subjects including English
Language and a subject from each of the following groups of subjects:

Chemistry/Physical Science/Physics with Chemistry

Biology/Rural Biology/Zoology/Botany/Agriculture

Mathematics/Applied Mathematics/Pure Mathematics/Applied Statistics

Environmental Studies/ Geography/ Economic Geography/ Commerce/ Accounts
/ French/ Portuguese.

G.C.E. Advanced Level passes or equivalent in at least two subjects from any two
of the following groups of subjects plus an “O” level pass at Credit level in one
subject in the third group. 

Biology/Botany/Zoology/Agriculture

Chemistry (A pass at Advanced Level in Chemistry would normally be an advantage)

Physics/Mathematics/Geography/Economics

A 2-year Diploma in Agriculture (with credit) after G.C.E. “A” Level or a 3-year
Diploma in Agriculture (with credit) after G.C.E. “O” Level in related fields (e.g. Horticulture/Wildlife

Management/Natural Resources//Fisheries/ Forestry/Beekeeping/Animal health)
recognized by the Senate of Africa University. (An applicant with a Diploma who
qualifies to be admitted to Year 2

of the 3-year Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources degree programme may be
able to complete the B.Sc. Agric. with Education degree in three years).

(iv ) 2-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree with specialization in Agriculture
or Business or any two of the following teaching subjects: English, French, Geography, History,
Music, Portuguese, and Religious Studies.

Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the 2-year B.Ed. degree programme, candidates should normally:

have undergone a secondary teacher education programme covering at least three
years;

hold a Diploma in Education or equivalent;* and

have taught or have had other relevant professional experience for a minimum of three
years.

Preference will be given to candidates with G.C.E. ‘A’ Level passes or equivalent in
their teachers college subjects that they intend to study at the University.

In addition to holding a diploma in Education, candidates intending to study Business
Education must have also passed Mathematics at “O” Level with Credit.

GRADUATE PROGRAMME

A full-time 2 year Master of Education (M.Ed) degree programme in Educational Leadership,
Management and Development (ELMD) for practicing or prospective:

Educational Leaders

Community Education Practitioners and

Community Development Practitioners

Admission requirements

The minimum entry requirements for admission to the M.Ed programme in Educational
Leadership, Management and Development (ELMD) are:

(1) (a) BA with Education, BSc with Education, or BED degree in at least the
second class lower division 
from this University or equivalent qualification from any recognized
university or equivalent
institution OR 

(b) A Bachelor‘s degree in the first or second class plus a Diploma in Education
or Postgraduate
Certificate /Diploma in Education or equivalent OR

(c) Equivalent qualification acceptable to Africa University Senate

(2) At least two years of appropriate post bachelor’s degree professional experience
in education or other
relevant professions which may be acquired concurrently with part-time studies
undertaken prior to entry
into the M.ED programme.

(3) Computer literacy*

(4) Three acceptable references from persons who have full knowledge of the
applicants’ academic
and professional competence.

*Applicants without computer literacy skills may be admitted; and if any admitted they
will be required to demonstrate computer literacy prior to graduating from the programme
by taking relevant course(s) at Africa University or elsewhere.
