Angolan Ambassador makes inaugural visit to campus

The recently-appointed Angolan Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency General Filipe Felisberto Monimambu, made his inaugural visit to Africa University in November. The Ambassador was on campus to commemorate the country’s Independence Day with the Angolan student community at Africa University.
There are 111 Angolans studying at the University, making the Angolan comcommunity the largest national group after Zimbabweans on the campus. During the two days leading to the independence celebrations on Nov. 11, the community hosted sports, cultural, worship and other activities. “This is an excellent institution and we need to take advantage of the opportunity we have been given to study here…Please study hard, not just to get a degree, but with the main objective of developing Angola because Angola is waiting for all of you,” said Ambassador Monanimbo.
Ambassador Monanimbo expressed his admiration for the University and its array of programs, noting especially those in the area of agriculture. “Africa’s agro-based economies need a lot of input in teaching and research in the area of agriculture, and I have no doubt that as an institution you are making strides in this regard,” he said.
Africa University is nearing the end of phase one of a capacity strengthening initiative involving Angola’s oldest higher education institution, Agostinho Neto University.
Funded by Chevron, the University has provided technical expertise and leadership to the revitalization of Agostinho Neto University’s Faculty of Agrarian Sciences and teaching farm in Huambo.
