AU hosts film festival

Sekai Mpisaunga with Antonnella Baggione of
the Dante Alighieri Society |
The University community hosted the first international cultural centres film festival to be held in Mutare from Nov. 5-9. Eight
centres collaborated on the event, with coordination from the British Council and the American Embassys public affairs unit.
Sekai Mpisaunga, the Bristish Councils brand manager, described the Mutare festival was a pilot project that the centres hope will grow as an annual event.
The idea of a film festival was mooted with the objective of initiating cultural exchanges
We specifically chose Africa
University because of its international character as represented in its student body and faculty, said Mpisaunga.
The British Council, Alliance Française, the Dante Alighieri Society, Institute Cervantes, the Zimbabwe-Germany Society/ Embassy of Germany, and the embassies of the United States, Canada and Switzerland all contributed films. Brian Kutiwa, the coordinator of the American Corner within the Universitys Jokomo Yamada Library, said the festival was fairly successful and hoped that African
productions can be incorporated in 2008.
