Staff elected to give regional
leadership on ICT and gender


LinuxChix Africa, a pan-African organisation whose broad
objective is to address gender issues in the ICT industry,
has appointed Nodumo Dhlamini, the director of AU’s
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centre,
to serve on its Board of Directors. Dhlamini will be responsible for Southern Africa

the University’s Educational Technologies
Administrator, will serve as the LinuxChix country representative for
Zimbabwe. At present, LinuxChix Zimbabwe has members at Africa
University, the University of Zimbabwe and the National University
of Science and Technology (NUST).

The local organisationaims to grow its three provincial chapters in Zimbabwe
and focus on capacity building for women and a mentorship
programme for young girls so that they become confident to
join the ICT industry.
As part of its agenda for making IT more accessible in
Africa, the University celebrated Software Freedom Day on
16 September. The day marks a worldwide celebration and
promotion of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS).
Activities exposed participants to the benefits of using high
quality free and open source software in education, at home
and in business.
