PhD In Peace Leadership And Governance

About the Programme

There are four phases to the Peace, Leadership and Governance programme, namely core courses, elective courses, elevation to candidacy and thesis writing and defense. To graduate, each student must have accumulated a minimum of 54 credit hours to complete the programme as follows:

Core courses

The first phase comprises six core courses through a residential learning programme during the first semester of the programme. Students are expected to acquire a broad background knowledge in the integrated field of study. The six core courses to be offered will include:

  1. PLG701 Philosophy of Social Sciences (3 credits)
  2. PLG702 Peace, Conflict and Security: Theory and Practice (3 credits)
  3. PLG703 Contemporary African Political Economy (3 credits)
  4. PLG704 Leadership Theory and Practice (3 credits)
  5. PLG705 Human Rights and Development: Theory and Practice (3 credits)
  6. PLG706 Social Science Research Methods 1 (3 credits)

Total (18 credit hours)

Electives
  1. 4 Elective Courses in the area of Specialization plus Social Science Research Methods 2 (15 credits)
  2. 2 Seminar Presentations (3 credits)
  3. 2 Workshops Attended (3 credits)
  4. Thesis proposal, field research, write-up and defense (18 credits)
