Africa University, a Pan African and United Methodist Church Related Institution in Zimbabwe, invites applications from suitably qualified and well experienced persons to fill the following strategic position:

UNIVERSITY CHAPLAIN

The Chaplain reports to The Vice Chancellor and is responsible for creating programmes and activities aimed at enhancing spiritual life of the University community which includes staff and students. The successful candidate will provide counselling services, engage in community welfare and coordinates church related outreach programmes.

Applicants should have the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Master’s degree in Theology and Pastoral studies
  • Must be an Ordained Pastor and have experience working as a Pastor in the United Methodist Church for 5 years would be an added advantage
  • At least 5 years as a Chaplain at tertiary institution
  • Some experience in teaching at a tertiary institution will be an added advantage

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts worship services twice a week including special services e.g. Easter programmes
  • Coordinates student fellowship groups and their activities
  • Runs special prayer programmes e.g. funeral and memorial services
  • Conducts counselling services for students and staff
  • Visits grieved families and those in hospitals, home based care etc
  • Advises students individually or collectively
  • Organises funerals for Africa University members of staff
  • Mobilises resources for the needy in the university community
  • Manages volunteer and mission activities e.g. building churches and schools
  • Develops and manages the Chaplain’s budget
  • Carries out any other duties as assigned by superior
  • Decides on prioritizing outreach activities and identifying preachers
  • Student fellowship groups
